We are currently experiencing a nationwide outage which is causing issues connecting to local and international sites, engineers are currently investigating however there is no ETR

From various reports, the problem has not yet been permanently fixed. There have apparently been several attempts to fix it, but they have not worked properly.
The fault is in some equipment that routes IP data from Melbourne to International destinations plus much of Australia.
Because of the way aaNet terminate their customer connections, the problem is affecting customers in all states except Qld and NSW. (but see next post)

As a temporary workaround, it might be possible to use the sydney proxy servers to carry http (web browser) traffic. (details given in this sticky)

I have just learnt a slight twist.
All customers nationwide using Optus dsl2 services (if there are still any with aaNet) have connections terminated in Melbourne.

When I say "terminated" I don't mean stopped (although that is rather apt at the moment), I refer to the PoP (point of presence), or next hop router. It refers to where your IP packets appear once they leave your house.

From the eftel status site today...

Quote:
With the upstream equipment being stable for 2 weeks we will be swapping back to the primary interconnect 19/4/2011.

It does not give a time for this, but you should expect a short outage.
