As is mine. I've corrected the terminology in my original post.

No, that wasn't the deal...

More than a little late. I think it was finalised about 2 weeks ago and most of aaNet seem to have gone on holidays.

You could always have a look at the released plans.

I have been able to coax an extra 30 kB/s from my connection by changing two things on my modem (Netcomm NB5580W):
1. changed my ADSL connection to use LLC encapsulation instead of VC. I don't know why I had it set to VC - maybe I had changed it when there was an authentication problem in Victoria many moons ago. BTW, I'm still using PPPoA in preference to PPPoE.
2. set the WAN MTU to 1462. This is based on reading the ADSL theory wiki page on Whirlpool: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/index.cf ... Theory_PPP

I am now synching at 7904 kbit/s (might be coincidence, I admit, from just rebooting the modem), but my ozspeedtest results are definitely better - best result is 835 kB/s, averaging ~830 kB/s (previous best was less that 800). :D

Maybe because VC-mux is slightly more efficient.

Because of the different overheads, the optimum MTU changes depending on whether you use VC-mux or LLC.
If you do not set exactly on the upper limit according to each protocol then VCmux and LLC will be exactly the same.

definitely a coincidence. This setting is finalised before any PPP negotiation can even start.
This is probably the main source of your improvement.
And optimising the MTU would be a small added bonus. Incidentally, my tests suggest you should try 1474 as your MTU.
If you try it and see a 3% drop in speed then you have jumped into the next bracket and should back off MTU in steps of 2 or 4 until the speed jumps up again.

I've got a task number assigned, so I'll let you know how things pan out

This has been resolved with a credit to my account. It took a bit longer than I had expected, but Jason sorted it out today. Thanks.
