As part of the preparation for the commercial launch of the new 8Mbps ADSL service, aaNet is looking for some trial customers. So, the big news is, aaNet will be providing Whirlpool forum members the chance to sign up to an unbeatable 8Mbps deal. We are looking for experienced ADSL users who are online a lot. There will a short survey that you will need to fill in, to provide us some information, including your readiness to provide feedbac k, technical or otherwise, etc.

If you are selected, and offered the chance to trial the 8Mbps service, you must be prepared to offer feedbac k as requested. We don't expect this will be an onerous requirement, but it is a commercial trial, and the price is super-low!

----------------

The ADSL Plan will offer free churn, and no contract period. The price will be guaranteed for a minimum of six months.

The cost of the service is $39.95 a month and comes with 5GB of download quota. Downloading during the off-peak period (between 1am and 8am) will make this quota ten times more valuable . This means that for every 1GB of quota, you may download 10GB of data during the off-peak period. Or, to put it in technical terms, data downloaded during the off-peak period will only count towards your monthly quota at 10% of its actual rate.

Further details, as well as the application process will be posted early next week. It will be open to all Whirlpool posters able to use the Telstra Wholesale churn process.

Regards,
The aaNet Team

Well non-aanet customers dont usually frequent the aanet forum, do they :)

Its an offer for new customers, or existing customers.

Well not all suitable customers regularly bring themselves down to WP standards ;)

or it's not just restricted to WP regulars then? ok, my hand is up :D

btw, does the special plan continue after the trial?

edit: I see that it is guaranteed for 6 months, but is it also guaranteed to end - or does it keep going indefinitely unless there's a need to pull it

In my response to Geoff, I indicated that we dont plan on removing the good rates after 6 months, but we have made that fact that we can, clear just in case we have to.

for those of us that recently changed, on top of the $40 slug for upgrading a plan, I think to be slugged again is a bit rich. It is to become a lucky dip about when to commit to anything it seems with these offers popping up as good as they seem at the time!

On the other hand I'm not sure what the solution is apart from keeping us punters informed.Your current customer base that is not the hordes over at WP

Sincerely

Bigpond charge $150/gb. It is still 15x cheaper than Bigponds excess rate. No other ISP will offer 8mbit ADSL for $40, let alone with 5GB of quota.

You also have the off-peak period in which to perform downloads at a rate of 10% counted. You would need to download 10GB during off-peak for it to take out 1GB of your quota.

count me in too. :D

Although i don't think 5gb will last long with streaming and gaming and all the other goodies i download.

I'm not normally on the computer between 1am and 8am. I'm either asleep or leaving for work. :(

I may have to kick some scheduled downloads off.... ;)

And I have an IT tech background so my input would be valuable.

If the excess charges were not so high i would be in , but i nearly rack up my 8gb through peak hours and at $10 a GB for the new plans i think the boss would have kittens !!

Me!

A 5gig limit will last about 5 minutes at those speeds... it's unfortunate but it really is there as a test bed. It won't suit many people once the excess usage bills start rolling in.

It depends what you use it for... a high speed link doesn't necessarily mean high usage. I'm currently on a 1500 plan and rarely exceed 3GB. If your usage patterns stay the same there's no reason you should use more (although possibly the temptation to make use of the higher speed may be a new factor in that)
