Cat,

With the final design - the one that will be used. Is it the intention of aaNet to use the artwork supplied by the chosen one as final artwork for sending to relevant publications? Or is the plan to just get ideas and then have a graphic artists set the job up for print?

Reason for asking: If the chosen ad is to be sent off to print, it must conform to some standards for press. I can't imagine many who will be doing this will be aware of exactly how a job needs to be set up for print. I assume you will require press-ready art...

------------------------------------------------------
Things to keep in mind if desgning full-colour ad for print:

- The final ad and all images must CMYK (not RGB.... not RGB. RGB to CMYK does not always print as you would expect).

- All images (unless vector-based: Adobe Illustrator, Maxromedia Freehand, etc) must be 300dpi, no less, no more. Images you pull from the web are typically 72dpi (screen resolution), these are not good enough for print.

- Text produced in apps like PhotoShop, when rasterised will not print as crisp as if left as curves, or retained as font data. It tends to blur... only slightly. But it does make for a less professional looking ad.

- If you are designing an ad, make sure you can easily scale the ad to a larger/smaller size, to meet specific magazine and newspaper specifications. They are very precise. I would suggest designing to A4 size (W: 210 mm x H: 297 mm), as most mags fit that size.

- Newspaper printing is not very high-quality, so don't use white, or light coloured text at small sizes on black or dark backgrounds. Keep type size to a minimum of 9 points. You can push down to 7 point, if you are using black on white or light-coloured background.

- Be prepared to output the ad as a PDF, as almost all magazines and newspapers (typically) accept this format only.

I don't want to come across as a smart-alec. I just want to help ensure things go smoothly for the winner and aaNet. There is nothing worse (and expensive) than booking ad space and having to reproduce artwork to a media deadline when the artwork is not up to scratch.

If any other people can chip in some suggestions I may have left out, please do so.

I've got a photoshop-produced really big PNG of the logo, with transparency, if someone wants it.

Good work Snarf.... That's even bigger than my version, probably good if there is going to be a half page add, we can make it 90% logo!!! :D
