Hi all, the mail boxes have all been recreated for aaNet and datacodsl. Currently the Netcall ones are being done

This means everyone should be able to use webmail.

We are looking at restoring address lists right now

Address books. I am copying those across now, will be completed shortly.

Note: For safety if you have already created an address book on the new box I am not overwriting it.
If you want your old box restored and it has not been already let me know (currently I am up to the j's alphabetically)

Import Clarifications

Due to the sheer volume of threads and posts on this issue it appears some clarification is required...

Why didn't you send an email to advise users this was going to take place:
The simple answer is that this WASN'T a planned outage or migration.
We did indeed have plans to migrate to a new mail server in the near future, and DEFINITELY would have sent out an email if/when this occurred with full details.
Unfortunately the old server stopped working functionally late on Thursday, and was no longer correctly delivering mail which meant that we had to perform this action as an emergency, unplanned migration. As we had no functional mail server and no lead-time it was pysically impossible to send an advice out to users before this happened.

What has happened to my old mail:
The old mail off the original mail server is still available via webmail on the old server using the following link:
https://202.63.35.130/webmail/src/login.php
We suggest you download any important emails from that server. We cannot guarantee how long that server will last in its present form, so the sooner you perform this action the better.

What has happened to mail after that:
Unfortunately some of it has been lost due to disk/box failure on one of the machines, however most old email will be on the box mentioned above, and some received Saturday morning we have a copy of and are in the process of copying across to the new server, which will hopefully be successful and completed today.

What do I do now?
As mentioned above, download any old emails that were on the old mail server. Going forward all setting should be constant and standard, i.e. both pop and smtp servers should be mail.aanet.com.au or mail.datacodsl.com depending on your email address, your login is the same as it always was (e.g. webmaster@aanet.com.au) and your password is unchanged. Your password can be reset, if necessary, in the members area.

Is the members email managing area working?
To the best of my knowledge it is fully functional, if you believe otherwise let me know...

What's the good news?
We now have a mail server that is running much better than the old one, last night we sent an email to all users, and pumped about 40000 messages through the server in the space of two hours, something we have never done before, and it processed without skipping a beat. In the very near future we will also have anti-spam and anti-virus running as well, which is unusual as a free service for ISP's and normally comes at an additional cost. This should both make your email more useful by weeding out the unnecessary annoyances, and improve the integrity of the mail server and network.

In summary:
Our old mail server has had occassional issues for a fair amount of time now, we intended to migrate it cleanly, our hand was forced by the old mail server dying. There were problems with the new server which were unrecoverable, another server (yes we do have pre-prepared boxes for this sort of emergency) was engaged and is now functioning better than we have ever had. There will be a few teething issues to sort out, but only minor, and from our viewpoint things should be improving rapidly now and end at a destination far superior to what you, or we, have experienced thus far.

please set your mail settings to mail.aanet.com.au for both incoming and outgoing mail.

If you still have a problem please flush your DNS settings. In windows click start then run type in cmd and hit enter, then type ipconfig /flushdns on the black screen hit enter

If you still have a problem let us know.

thanks Cat

Ok, latest update

IMAP SSL is now working for those using it
POP SSL is also now working for those using that.

CLAMAV antivirus is installed. Not configured yet.

SSL certs will be upgraded soon to reflect the name of the URL, should stop the annoying pop up.

Hi all, 2 current problems

1st issue

Users last night tried to create new email accounts and they were not created created correctly and the process only half completed.

If you created a new mail account and cannot log in using that account:
You will need to deleted and recreate these in the members area in order to fix the problem.

If you changed your mail password and your new password does not work:
You will need to change it again in the members area.

If you deleted a mail account and it still exists:
Let Webmaster know and he will fix it.

2nd issue
Webmail made available to retrieve old email has been fixed again after failing sometime last night.
