Once again aaNet is having an email outage.

aaNet is currently undergoing a Denial of Service to the mail server and as yet we have not found a way to stop it.

Estimated time of Restore is unknown at this stage.

Futher updates will be available here

thanks Cat

Hi all, this is working and has been for a little while now but we are yet to find a permanent solution to this type of attack without impacting our genuine users.

Hi all,

We have done some kernel patching on the server and had to temporarily shift your mail which is being rsynced back now.

Mail is now working and we hope to keep it that way. We did take the oportunity to implement CLAMAV and Spamassasin, so that is done now.

As requested, we added the compose as html addin for Squirrel mail and the view as html. In addtion we added the address book import and export.

We have fixed the SMPT Auth and you can logon with your SMTP authentication ticked or unticked now.

We also took the oportunity to implement some anti spoofing measures.

Currently newly made mail boxes will not authenticate. We are aware of the problems and will have it fixed I hope sometime later today or tomorrow.

Sorry I wont be around this morning but I am needing a bit of shut eye.

Hi all, this is the latest update.

The problems with SMTP connections this morning was caused by a restiction on allowed number of SMTP connections due to the DoS attack. We let it out slowly bit by bit all day untill we found out the right amount to allow for our customers

So far all the email has been copied back to the server.

Some people had problems with POP connections which has been resolved.

Dataco.com.au Datacodsl.com and Netcall.com.au mail has been or is being copied accross from the orignal server. Unfortunatley aaNet.com.au mail is over 100 gig and unless there is a big call for it, we would rather not do this to the new server.

I would really like to thank all the people that pm'ed me with your thoughts, suggestions and support.

thanks heaps

Cat

Hi all,

I would ask any of you that are scanning outbound email via norton antivirus to please switch if off. It has been identified as causing a number of issues with the mail server including timeouts to those who have it switched on.

We are talking to a Symantic rep now about the problem and are hopefull of a resolution.

thanks Cat
