There are reports of a spate of problems affecting some Melbourne customers.
For example: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=15909
and http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-re ... ?t=1219040

The common factor is connections at some exchanges with Nextep dslams,
Code:
ASCT ASCOT-VIC
BOXL BOX HILL
BRUK BRUNSWICK
CLAY CLAYTON
CWOD COLLINGWOOD
CROH CROYDON-VIC
DAND DANDENONG
EXHN EXHIBITION
LONS LONSDALE-VIC
NCOE NORTHCOTE
OAKL OAKLEIGH
PMEL PORT MELBOURNE
SYRA SOUTH YARRA
TRAK TOORAK
TMNE TULLAMARINE
WHLL WHEELERS HILL
WIRC WINDSOR-VIC

It appears (but has yet to be officially confirmed) that customers are being migrated, and there are some teething problems, which are being investigated.

What to do:
  • If you cannot get PPP authentication at all, make sure you have set the router to use PPPoE - apparently PPPoA no longer works.

If you are having slow or erratic browsing there are a number of possible suggestions.
  1. check your modem sync speed. If your sync speed is not in accord with your plan then report it to aanet support.
  2. For erratic browsing, some users (see the whilpool thread) report that slowing their ethernet connection to 10Mbps makes their internet go faster.
  3. you could try setting the MTU on your PC ethernet interface to 1492 (use something like DrTCP, or speedguide.net's TCPOptimizer - always reboot after using this)
